The major US races, in order

The next running of each of the biggest races in the United States, soonest first. Tap any race for its guide, the live card on the day, and the result.

American racing’s calendar is built around a handful of championship days. It opens in late January with the Pegasus World Cup at Gulfstream Park, builds through the spring classics, the Kentucky Oaks and the Kentucky Derby, and the rest of the Triple Crown, the Preakness and the Belmont Stakes.

The summer peaks with the Travers Stakes at Saratoga, and the season closes at the Breeders’ Cup World Championships, two days of Grade 1 racing that crown the champions. Along the way the key trials and championships fill the calendar: the Santa Anita Derby on the west coast, the Haskell for the summer three-year-olds, and the Whitney for the older horses. Each of these has a dedicated guide here, and the live card and result appear on the day. As with all US racing on The Overlay this is data only, with no Overlay score.
