The Travers Stakes is the oldest major thoroughbred race in the United States, first run in 1864, and the centrepiece of the Saratoga summer meet in Saratoga Springs, New York. Run over 1¼ miles on dirt for three-year-olds, it is known as the Midsummer Derby.
Because it comes after the Triple Crown, the Travers regularly brings the season's leading three-year-olds back together, and it has a long history of upsets: Saratoga's nickname, the Graveyard of Champions, was earned here. The 2027 running is in late August, on the traditional Travers card.
How to follow it here: the live Saratoga card and result appear above on race day, with full field, odds and finishing positions. As with all US racing on The Overlay this is data only, with no Overlay score. See all US racing and the Breeders’ Cup.
