Soft-ground form is notoriously hard to fake, and it shows in the favourites. The deeper the ground, the more reliable the jolly becomes, both in strike rate and in actual return.

If you lean on favourites at all, the data says do it when the mud is flying, not on a quick summer surface where the form is looser.
It also flags the all-weather (standard going) as the toughest place to trust a short price, worth remembering on a winter Friday night card.
