Ireland's premier Classic
A Group 1 for three-year-olds over a mile and a half at the Curragh, Ireland's home of the flat. It sits a few weeks after the Epsom Derby and is the season's key mid-summer middle-distance Classic on the other side of the Irish Sea.
Why it matters
The Irish Derby is where the Epsom form gets tested: Epsom winners come to confirm their class, while beaten Epsom horses and improving colts who missed the Derby get their chance on a fairer, galloping track. A strong renewal is one of the best middle-distance form lines of the year, straight into the King George and the autumn Group 1s.
Declared runners, the going and prices land on our racecards in the week of the race.
Trends & angles
A small, elite, sharply-priced field, so blanket angles are thin. These are the patterns with a real base. A trend is a question, not a tip.
The Epsom Derby and Oaks are the strongest form lines. A horse that ran well at Epsom, or was an unlucky loser there, is often the one to beat at the Curragh.
Ballydoyle has an extraordinary record in its home Classic. Respect the O'Brien runners, particularly any with strong Epsom or Group trial form.
The Curragh is a galloping, fair test, so genuine middle-distance class tends to tell. It rarely rewards a horse taking a big rise in grade.

Where we add the edge
The Overlay rates every runner on how often its connections actually win versus what the price expects, then surfaces the horses we make bigger than the market. We are a data-driven analysis tool, not a tipping service: every call is a suggestion for you to judge, settled honestly at Betfair SP, win or lose.
Once the Irish Derby field is declared, our value read on every runner, plus the going and prices, appears on the dashboard with the plain-English reason behind each one.
